THE IMPORTANCE OF DENTAL CLEANINGS FOR MAINTAINING A HEALTHY SMILE
Maintaining optimal oral health entails the removal of plaque, a host for bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum disease. We strongly encourage patients to schedule professional dental cleanings biannually at our office. This routine enables our hygienists to meticulously eliminate accumulated plaque, tartar, and food debris from both the teeth and gums effectively.
Regular dental cleanings offer the following benefits:
- Maintain the freshness and cleanliness of your smile
- Prevent cavities and protect the health of your gums
- Assist in reversing gingivitis and restoring gum health
- Promote your overall health and well-being
What you can anticipate during a teeth cleaning procedure
Dental cleanings are performed using either manual instruments or an ultrasonic scaler. Manual instruments remove harmful deposits from the teeth through scraping, while an ultrasonic scaler utilizes water and vibrations for cleaning. Our hygienists may use a combination of both methods for the best results.
In a standard dental cleaning, the emphasis is on the surface areas around the tooth's neck, mainly above or slightly below the gumline. This process is generally painless and uncomplicated. However, for patients with tooth sensitivity or other dental issues that may cause discomfort during the cleaning, we can provide topical numbing gels or local anesthesia.
