The syringe you are using can be kept in the bathroom cabinet. Teeth can be sensitive after whitening. Use a sensitive toothpaste like Sensodyne to ease sensitivity. Tylenol/Motrin may also be taken for sensitivity. Try to avoid any dark or red colored food/beverages (red wine, coffee, soy sauce etc.) while whitening and for a few days after. Keep up good oral hygiene after teeth whitening brushing and flossing daily. Call the office with any questions or concerns for teeth whitening post-op instructions. - [Periodontal Scaling and Root Planing Post-Op](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/pre-post-op-instructions/periodontal-scaling-and-root-planing-post-op/): Scaling and Root planing is an extensive procedure; however, most patients experience little or no post operative discomfort. The most frequent complaints are slight tenderness of the gums and teeth may be sensitive to cold drinks and foods. Here are some helpful reminders.1. Be careful eating while you are numb. Hot foods and drinks such as soup, pizza, coffee, and tea can seriously burn your mouth. It is easy to bite your tongue and lip while numb. 2. Use warm saltwater rinses. 1 tsp. salt per 8 oz. of water several times per day for up to one week. This is soothing and promotes faster healing. 3. Take an anti-inflammatory pain reliever. In most cases, ibuprofen (Advil) will be sufficient to control discomfort. we recommend 600 mg 4x/day (not to exceed 3200mg). Do not take ibuprofen if you have an allergy or are pregnant. 4. It is imperative that you floss and brush daily. Brushing and flossing daily helps to remove plaque and debris from between your teeth. This is crucial in fighting periodontal disease. 5. Refrain from smoking 24-48 hours to promote healthy healing of gum tissues.Sensitivity Sensitive teeth are very common after treatment and usually resolves in 1-2 weeks. Avoid ice cold drinks and foods while teeth are sensitive Brushing two to three times daily with sensitivity toothpaste (Crest for Sensitive Teeth® or Sensodyne®) will reduce cold sensitivity. Fluoride rinses like Act® may reduce sensitivity and fight cavities. If sensitivity persists, the dentist may apply a professional desensitizing agent. In rare instances, cold sensitivity may persist. - [Tooth Extraction Post-Op](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/pre-post-op-instructions/tooth-extraction-post-op/): After tooth extraction, it's important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That's why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 45 minutes after the appointment. If the bleeding or oozing persists, insert another gauze pad and bite firmly for another 30 minutes. You may have to do this several times. Do not rinse or spit for 24 hours after surgery. Keep your fingers and tongue away from the socket or surgical area. Use ice packs on the surgical area (side of face) for the first 48 hours; apply ice 20 minutes on 10 minutes off. (Note: Bags of frozen peas work well.) For mild discomfort, take Tylenol or ibuprofen every 3-4 hours. For severe pain, use the medication prescribed to you. Drink plenty of fluids. (Do not use a straw-this creates suction in the mouth that could cause complications.) Do not use a straw, smoke, or swish vigorously for 3 days. Avoid strenuous activity and do not exercise for at least 3-4 days after surgery. After that be careful: your regular caloric and fluid intake have been reduced, so you may get light-headed, dizzy, or weak. If the muscles of the jaw become stiff, the use of warm moist heat to the outside of your face over the sports that are stiff will relax these muscles. After 3 post-operative days, you may use a warm salt water rinse following meals for the first week to flush out particles of food and debris that may lodge in the surgical area. (Mix 1/2 teaspoon of salt in a glass of warm water. Mouthwash can be added for better taste.) Your diet should consist mainly of soft, easily swallowed foods and cool drinks. Avoid anything that might get stuck in your teeth, so no seeds, nuts, rice, popcorn, or similar foods. - [Night Guard Post-Op](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/pre-post-op-instructions/night-guard-post-op/): Brush and floss before wearing the appliance. Use your fingers to place the appliance over your teeth. Do not bite until it is properly in place. Do not eat while your appliance is in place. Clean your appliance after use using your toothbrush and water. NO TOOTHPASTE. The appliance may also be cleaned 1 x week by placing it in denture cleaners such as Efferdent or Polident. Bring your appliances with you to your routine cleaning appointments. Call our office if you have questions or concerns. Note: There is a small risk of bite changes as the appliance allows your muscles to relax. This is usually transient in nature, but could require orthodontics or tooth re-contouring to establish equilibrium between your tooth position and jaw joint and muscles. - [Temporary Crown Post-Op](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/pre-post-op-instructions/temporary-crown-post-op/): Temporaries are made of lightweight materials. We suggest that you avoid hard foods or crunchy foods with temporary teeth. Because the temporaries are adhered with soft cement that allows them to be removed at a later appointment it is possible for the tooth to become dislodged. We advise you to pass on eating sticky foods. Be gentle when flossing around temporary teeth. Pull the floss through the front to back to avoid any pulling action on the temporary. If the temporary Crown comes off, make sure to call the office - [Botox Pre-OP](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/pre-post-op-instructions/botox-pre-op/): Please review and adhere to the following pre-treatment guidelines in preparation for your botulinum toxin appointment. You have chosen to make an investment in your smile. Follow these recommendations so that you may enjoy your new smile for years to come.Brushing Brush twice a day for at least 2 minutes. A mechanical or ultrasonic brush, such as Sonicare or Oral B, will help you to adequately remove plaque and bacteria. In addition, most electric brushes have a timer that assists you in brushing for a full 2 minutes. Waterpicks and Sonicare AirFloss are helpful to flush a “hard to reach" areas under your implants. Flossing Floss under your implant crown and around your implant at least once a day. Make sure that your insert your Superfloss (available where you buy traditional dental floss) under and in-between each implant area. Wrap the floss around each implant and move it up and down to loosen and remove food and bacteria. Use a new section of floss for each implant. Rinses You may use Listerine or other recommended rinse as a daily mouth rinse. Avoid any rinse or dental dentifrice with hydrogen peroxide as it will react with the titanium and discolor your restorations. Dental Visits You should have a dental cleaning at least every 6 months. At least once per year you will have an exam with Dr. Pak. Please call our office at any time if you are experiencing any tooth or jaw problem or the implant crown becomes loose. We are here to help. Occlusal Guards Clenching and grinding exert pressure that can be generated across the teeth that can range from 100 to 600 psi (pounds per square inch). That incredible amount of force can cause many different problems related to your gums and jaw. Unlike normal teeth which have some "give" under normal chewing function, implants are fused to your jawbone. This is important to consider if you are aware of or have been told that you clench or grind your teeth. Clenching and grinding when you have an implant may cause damage to your opposing teeth. It may benefit you to have an occlusal guard (night guard) made to protect your teeth from cracks, fractures, and excessive wear. An occlusal guard is an appliance designed from dental models of your teeth and made of a rigid plastic. It prevents the teeth from coming together while sleeping at night. It also provides a guide for your jaw so that muscles can relax and bite problems will not trigger the bruxing action. - [Digital SLR Photography](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/technology/digital-slr-photography/): Enhanced Diagnosis: The high-resolution images produced by DSLR photography enable us to identify dental issues with precision. This arises primarily due to jaw complications. Notably, events like car accidents or sports-related injuries often result in craniofacial pain. Moreover, sleep apnea — a condition where oxygen supply is limited during sleep — can trigger TMJ disorder and associated jaw pain. - [Orthodontics](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/orthodontics/): Orthodontic treatments effectively align teeth, not only enhancing smiles by straightening teeth but also contributing to restoring functionality in the teeth, jaw, and bite. - [TMJ Disorders](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/tmj-disorders/): TMJ disorders can be categorized into three groups: - [Root Canal](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/root-canal/): Root canal therapy presents a solution by eliminating the infection, preserving natural teeth, and restoring oral health. Compared to tooth extraction, root canal treatment is less painful and involves a shorter recovery period. - [Wisdom Tooth Removal](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/wisdom-tooth-removal/): At Discover Dental, we understand that contemplating wisdom teeth removal can trigger anxiety and concern, especially with terms like "surgery" and "extraction" involved. However, we want to assure you that our team is highly skilled and experienced in oral surgery, ensuring a safe, efficient, and comfortable wisdom teeth removal process. - [Extractions](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/extractions/): At our dental practice, we are committed to providing exceptional care for dental extractions, regardless of the underlying reasons. Our dentist conducts a thorough review of your medical and dental histories and discusses any specific considerations for your treatment. - [Periodontal Treatment](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/periodontal-treatment/): Through the use of the most recent dental advancements, our periodontal treatments not only halt the progression of gum disease but also encompass effective procedures like bone grafting and regenerative treatments. These interventions aid in tissue repair, bolster bone density, improve aesthetics, and establish a solid foundation for the placement of dental implants. - [Dental Exam And Cleaning](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/dental-exam/): Maintaining optimal oral health requires the removal of plaque, a haven for bacteria that can lead to cavities and gum disease. We strongly advise patients to schedule biannual professional dental cleanings at our office. This regular routine enables our hygienists to meticulously remove built-up plaque, tartar, and food debris from both the teeth and gums, ensuring comprehensive cleanliness and health. - [Teeth Whitening](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/teeth-whitening/): The effectiveness, potency, and safety of a whitening system rely on the concentration of these elements. Teeth whitening involves a chemical interaction between the bleaching agent and the molecules responsible for discoloration. This reaction effectively breaks down and eliminates stains and discoloration from the teeth. - [Smile Makeovers](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/smile-makeovers/): We highly value our patients' input when creating effective and satisfying cosmetic treatment plans. During consultations for a cosmetic smile makeover, our focus is on understanding your preferences, addressing concerns, and thoroughly evaluating your smile. This personalized approach helps us pinpoint procedures that will bring the most satisfying results for you. Our range of conservative and minimally invasive options, including dental bonding, teeth whitening treatments, and porcelain veneers, caters to various imperfections, significantly enhancing your smile. Moreover, for issues such as cavities, significant structural damage, or cosmetic flaws, we provide excellent solutions through composite fillings and full-coverage crowns. - [Veneers](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/veneers/): WHAT ARE DENTAL VENEERS? Dental veneers offer an effective and conservative solution for enhancing the appearance of imperfect teeth. These customized, ultra-thin coverings are expertly bonded to the front surface of the teeth, providing a seamless and remarkably natural look. Veneers have the capability to conceal various imperfections, such as misshapen teeth, minor chips, enamel irregularities, stains, and small gaps. They can also address slight alignment issues. A notable advantage of veneers is their minimal requirement for natural tooth preparation, ensuring long-lasting results. Furthermore, their thin design prioritizes the preservation of as much natural tooth structure as possible and treats the gumline delicately.Emergency Dentist Near Me Initial consultation and care The initial phase in obtaining dental veneers involves a consultation to evaluate your dental health, oral functionality, and your desired aesthetic improvements for your smile. During this session, we'll discuss your individual smile goals and treatment preferences. Addressing any periodontal issues or tooth cavities in the relevant teeth before creating your new veneers is vital, despite the relatively swift nature of the veneer procedure. Addressing these dental concerns beforehand is essential to ensure a successful outcome.Tooth preparation and Impression taking The amount of tooth preparation needed for porcelain veneers may vary depending on the specific case and the selected type of veneer. However, typically, the removal of tooth structure from the front and sides is kept minimal to maintain a natural appearance and ensure durability. After tooth preparation, an impression is taken, and a porcelain shade is chosen. Custom veneers are precisely created at a dental laboratory. Meanwhile, temporary veneer facings are applied to protect the teeth until the permanent ones are completed.Fitting and placement After the completion of your veneers, it's essential to verify their fit, size, shade, and shape. Before attaching them to your teeth, necessary adjustments will be made to ensure an accurate fit and the most aesthetically pleasing result. Your satisfaction with your enhanced smile is our top priority. Once the veneers are fitted and approved, the involved teeth will be cleaned, and the veneers will be permanently bonded using composite resin cement. Any further adjustments or minor refinements required will be addressed after the placement. - [All On X](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/all-on-x/): Discussion of Concerns and Objectives: Transparent communication is key. We encourage you to share your concerns, preferences, and smile aspirations during the consultation. This information helps tailor the All-On-X treatment plan to suit your specific needs. - [Dental Crowns](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/dental-crowns/): A dental crown acts as a protective shield, covering the visible part of a tooth and reinstating its original shape, size, and color. Various situations may necessitate the use of a porcelain crown. Severe tooth decay that surpasses the suitability of a filling, inlay, or onlay for cavity treatment is a common reason. Moreover, a crown might be vital for repairing a fractured tooth or serving as the final step in procedures like root canals or dental implants. - [Dental Implants](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/dental-implants/): Dental Implants for Missing Teeth Should you encounter discomfort or diminished confidence stemming from a missing tooth, opting for a dental implant presents a viable solution. This innovative approach has revolutionized modern dentistry, offering an exceptionally effective means of replacing missing teeth.A dental implant involves the surgical placement of an artificial tooth directly into your jaw. Following this, a dental crown is attached to the implant, resulting in a complete tooth that closely mimics the appearance and sensation of a natural tooth. Crucially, this new replacement tooth seamlessly functions, resembling the performance of your original tooth.CONSIDER ALL THE BENEFITS Dental implants offer an exceptional solution for individuals experiencing the loss of one, multiple, or all their teeth, ensuring the restoration of a complete and aesthetically pleasing smile! The demand for dental implants is swiftly increasing, with around 3 million people having already reaped their benefits, and this number consistently grows by 500,000 annually. The rising popularity of dental implants is owed to their numerous advantages over alternative treatment options.Dental implants offer several advantages over conventional fixed bridges and dentures as remarkably effective solutions for replacing missing teeth. Dental implants closely replicate the look, feel, and function of natural teeth. With proper placement, oral hygiene, and regular care, dental implants can last for many years. Dental implants stimulate the underlying bone, preventing bone loss and preserving natural facial contours. Unlike removable dentures, implants behave like natural teeth and do not slip or dislodge while speaking or eating. Dental implants allow for easy speaking, eating, and tasting all types of food without restrictions. Dental implants do not decay and are not susceptible to cavities. Unlike fixed bridges, dental implants do not require any preparation or crowning of adjacent teeth. Dentures, in particular, offer individuals who have experienced tooth loss a durable, lifelike smile. For many patients, dentures not only rebuild confidence in social situations but also function comparably to their natural teeth.Advantages of Dentures Enhance Facial Features The absence of teeth can lead to facial areas appearing sunken. Dentures effectively address this concern by restoring your natural facial contours.Smoother Speech Replacing missing teeth enables clearer enunciation and improved communication.Improved Chewing The absence of teeth can create difficulties in eating your preferred foods. Dentures enable comfortable chewing, allowing you to once again savor your favorite dishes.Improved Oral Health Replacing decayed teeth contributes to enhancing your oral health by safeguarding your remaining natural teeth. How Dentures Work Based on the individual's condition, the dentist might suggest either partial or full dentures to rejuvenate a patient's smile.Full Dentures After the extraction of all remaining teeth and sufficient healing of your gums, the dentist will custom-fit and install the removable dentures. Initially, you may encounter slight discomfort or unfamiliarity with the dentures during the initial few weeks. However, with time, they should progressively become more comfortable and seamlessly adapt to your mouth, feeling increasingly natural.Partial Dentures Partial dentures differ from full dentures as they exclusively replace a few missing teeth while preserving your existing healthy natural teeth.Caring for Your Dentures Consistent rinsing and brushing of your dentures are crucial to uphold cleanliness and prevent bacterial accumulation. Proper storage in an appropriate container when not in use helps prevent warping. Embracing these oral hygiene practices is vital for maintaining a bright smile and ensuring excellent oral health.Dentures serve as a highly recommended dental solution endorsed by many dentists for enhancing smiles after tooth removal or loss. Traditionally, fillings comprised a blend of metals known as amalgam. However, contemporary alternatives, termed "white fillings," match the tooth's color. These restorative fillings not only rebuild and mimic the tooth's natural structure but also seamlessly integrate with it. Constructed from robust composite resin materials, these tooth-colored fillings are resilient and durable. They are intricately bonded to the tooth to replace the decayed or damaged parts. - [Snoring Appliances](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/snoring-appliances/): When snoring is diagnosed independently from sleep apnea, it's categorized as "primary snoring." To improve sleep quality for both you and your household, we often recommend using a custom-made oral appliance. - [Home Sleep Test](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/home-sleep-test/): Several treatment options are available to manage both the symptoms and underlying causes of sleep apnea. Patients often choose between a CPAP machine or an oral appliance to alleviate symptoms. While CPAP machines are effective, their use can be cumbersome. In contrast, oral appliances, similar to bite guards for teeth grinding, offer more comfort. - [Sleep Apnea](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/loomis/sleep-apnea/): At Discover Dental, we understand the importance of quality sleep in maintaining overall health. A good night's rest not only contributes to a sense of well-being but also improves your daily performance. In the United States, approximately 25 million adults suffer from obstructive sleep apnea, while many others are affected by snoring. Our goal is to provide effective solutions to address these issues, allowing you to enjoy tranquil and uninterrupted sleep. What Is Sleep Apnea? Sleep apnea is a critical condition characterized by breathing interruptions during sleep, posing potential risks to one's life. The prevalent form, obstructive sleep apnea, occurs when the airway is obstructed, disrupting the usual passage of oxygen through the nose or mouth. Those affected experience an excessive relaxation of muscles in the throat and mouth while asleep, resulting in their collapse and the subsequent blockage of the airway. This leads to difficulties in breathing. What are the indications of sleep apnea? Individuals affected by this disorder may experience symptoms including loud snoring, interruptions in breathing, abrupt awakenings, gasping for air, and difficulties in achieving restful sleep throughout the night. Sleep apnea can also lead to morning headaches, excessive daytime sleepiness, trouble concentrating, and irritability during the day. Moreover, it is often associated with other medical conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular issues, heart conditions, acid reflux, and depression. How can I determine if I have sleep apnea? A physician can perform a sleep study to diagnose and assess the severity of the condition. The results from this study, alongside other medical assessments, will guide the selection of the most appropriate therapy.HOW IS SLEEP APNEA TREATED? One prevalent treatment for obstructive sleep apnea involves using a CPAP machine during sleep. This device delivers a continuous flow of pressurized air into the respiratory system through a mask.ORAL APPLIANCES: AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION FOR SLEEP APNEA TREATMENT Individuals experiencing mild to moderate sleep apnea or snoring often receive recommendations for oral appliances. These devices, similar to mouthguards or orthodontic retainers, are worn during sleep to prevent the collapse of the tongue and soft tissues in the throat. By doing so, they help maintain an open airway. There are diverse designs available to accommodate individual requirements. Nevertheless, the primary goal of treatment is to reduce the occurrence and duration of apneas, hypopneas, and snoring.CUSTOM ORAL APPLIANCES, SKILLED AND EXPERIENCED CARE In our practice, we specialize in Dental Sleep Medicine, committed to delivering expert, dependable, and personalized care. Our approach involves a comprehensive assessment of your oral structure and needs, ensuring precise impressions of your teeth for optimal results. Dental veneers offer a conservative and highly effective solution for enhancing the appearance of imperfect teeth. These custom-made, ultra-thin coverings are carefully bonded to the front surface of the teeth, providing a seamless and remarkably natural look. Veneers have the ability to conceal various imperfections, including misshapen teeth, small chips, enamel irregularities, stains, and minor gaps. Additionally, they can address slight alignment issues. A primary advantage of veneers lies in their minimal requirement for natural tooth preparation, ensuring enduring results. Moreover, their slim design safeguards the preservation of as much natural tooth structure as possible and treats the gumline gently.Emergency Dentist Near Me Initial consultation and care The first step in acquiring dental veneers is a consultation to assess your dental health, oral functionality, and desired aesthetic improvements for your smile. In this session, we will discuss your specific smile goals and treatment preferences. It's crucial to address any periodontal problems or tooth cavities in the relevant teeth before creating your new veneers, despite the veneer procedure being relatively swift. Handling these dental concerns beforehand is essential.Tooth preparation and Impression taking The extent of tooth preparation necessary for porcelain veneers can vary based on the individual case and the chosen veneer type. However, the removal of tooth structure from the front and sides is usually minimized, aiming for a natural appearance and durability. Following the tooth preparation, an impression is taken, and a porcelain shade is selected. The custom-made veneers are subsequently created at a dental laboratory. Meanwhile, temporary veneer facings are applied to protect the teeth until the permanent ones are ready.Fitting and placement Once your veneers are prepared, it's crucial to verify their fit, size, shade, and shape. Before attaching them to your teeth, necessary adjustments will be made to ensure precise fitting and the most aesthetically pleasing result. Ensuring your satisfaction with your improved smile is a priority. Once the veneers are fitted and approved, the respective teeth will undergo cleaning, and the veneers will be permanently bonded using composite resin cement. Any additional tweaks or minor refinements needed will be addressed after the placement. - [Tooth Colored Fillings](https://www.discoverdentalrocklin.com/granite-bay/dental-fillings/): When teeth undergo damage due to dental decay, cracks, or fractures, dental fillings are often employed for restoration.
